The MB 36 is a Myler alternative to the traditional mullen, but it has a wide low port that allows the tongue to pass under it comfortably. The port is 1″ high, and tilted forward at a 45º angle, allowing just enough room for the horse’s tongue to elevate slightly and swallow, but not high enough for palate pressure. When the reins are engaged, the MB 36 applies pressure primarily to the bars and lip, but also applies tongue pressure because of the forward tilt.
Black Steel 7″ Seven Shank with Sweet Iron Ported Barrel (MB 33, Level 3) Copper Inlay.
Stainless Steel 5″ HBT Shank with Sweet Iron Forward Tilt Ported Barrel (MB 36, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay. This mouthpiece is made of polished Sweet Iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation.
Eggbutt French Link Snaffle, 5″
A French link snaffle is a double-jointed bit with a flat, oval-shaped centerpiece designed to lie comfortably on a horse’s tongue. This design provides a milder, more uniform pressure than a single-jointed bit, prevents the mouthpiece from pressing into the roof of the horse’s mouth, and allows for more independent control of each side of the bit. It is often recommended for horses with less palate clearance.
Full Cheek Snaffle with Dr. Bristol Center, 5″
The Dr. Bristol link and the French link differ in several ways. The Dr. Bristol link is not a Dressage legal mouthpiece, the French link is. The main difference is that the French link sits at the same angle as the rest of the mouthpiece, while the Dr. Bristol sits at a different angle. The Dr. Bristol will rest across the horse’s mouth until the horse comes against the bit at a certain angle, at which point, the edge of the Dr. Bristol center link will come against the tongue. This makes the mouthpiece a bit more corrective than a French link mouthpiece which typically stays flat against the tongue.
Eggbutt Curved Dr Bristol Snaffle, 5″
Eggbutt cheek pieces with a slightly curved Dr. Bristol centerpiece. Metal alloy, made in England.

Myler Medium English Dee without Hooks and Low Port Comfort Snaffle MB 04
Myler Stainless Steel 3 3/8″ Medium Dee without Hooks, MB 04 Low Port Comfort Snaffle™, Level 2
The MB 04 is similar to the MB 02 in that it will rotate on the tongue and apply tongue pressure, however, it has a small (¼”) port that introduces some tongue relief to the horse. The port allows the horse to swallow and move his tongue when he is moving forward and relaxed, which acts as a release or reward. The mouthpiece is curved, and it wraps around the bars and lips instead of pinching.
Shires Sweet Iron Lozenge Flat Ring Eggbutt Bit
The fixed rings prevent pinching, whilst the sweet iron mouthpiece encourages salivation. The lozenge avoids a nutcracker action. Sweet iron mouthpieces are designed to oxidize to produce a sweet taste which helps with mouthing. The addition of copper to the mouth ensures the horse will not take up too much of a contact, ideal for horses that can take a hold. Stainless steel is used for the cheeks due to it being durable, easy to clean, and resistance to rust.
Mouthpiece thickness: 14mm. Cheek height: 55mm (4.5″, 5″), 75mm (5.5″, 6″).
Herm Sprenger Aurigan Special Weymouth Bit, 5″
For a comfortable Weymouth, get your horse the Special 16mm Aurigan Dressage Bit from Herm Sprenger.
This superb Weymouth bit features a medium high and widened port that is angled forward by 30. The tongue pressure is reduced, so it is suitable for horses that are irritated by a cramped tongue. Also, pressure exerted is higher poll due to the 7 cm cheeks. The leverage effect is slightly delayed. Additionally, the mouthpiece is made of Aurigan, which helps to stimulate salivation through the unique composition of copper, silicon, and zinc. This encourages the horse to chew and accept the bit more readily, leading to greater relaxation, communication, and responsiveness.
