One day a new animal arrived at the barn. It looked odd, made frightening sounds, and smelled weird. It had four legs like me, but that’s where the similarities ended. All the people at the barn seemed excited about its arrival, which I couldn’t understand. They called the creature a pig, and to my dismay, even Mom was interested in it.

The pig’s  name was Jack. I heard the barn owner say she adopted him from the NHSPCA (New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). I don’t know what this meant, but I now know I never wanted to go there-ever-not if that’s where pigs come from!
